The Neumann U 87 Ai is the most recorded studio microphone in history, and for good reason. Switchable omnidirectional, cardioid and figure-8 patterns let it adapt from an intimate close vocal to a full room, while the famously flattering midrange is why it stays the first microphone reached for on a lead vocal.

Beyond vocals it is equally at home on brass, acoustic guitar, piano and overheads. A switchable low-cut filter and pad handle loud sources without strain, and the 20 Hz to 20 kHz response with 12 dB-A self-noise keeps quiet passages clean.
